The vegan society is a recognized student organisation (RSO) at the University of Chicago. We meet once a week and we host at least three events annually (Vegan Ice Cream Social, Vegan Thanksgiving and Try Vegan Week). In addition to supplying UChicago vegans (and supporters) with delectable treats throughout the year, we also bring in speakers from around the country for Try Vegan Week to reflect on veganism from social, economic, environmental and biological standpoints. The vegan society is a joint undergraduate and graduate organisation.

The Vegan Society was started by undergraduates Eric Purdy, Kate Field, Katie Zagnoli and Jolinda Hackett in the winter of 2003. They won the "best new RSO award" during the 2003-2004 school year, convinced a neighborhood diner, Salonica, to stop serving veal and created "Try Vegan Week." Consult the history section to explore what else we have accomplished over the years.
