Making the Transition
|
Slow and Steady - The easiest, surest way to become a vegetarian is to do it slowly. Like any significant change in your life, it can take some getting used to. Start out eating vegetarian just one or two days out of the week, and add two more of those days every two weeks. Within a month, youll be vegetarian almost all the time. If you ever get frustrated, just remember that every meatless meal you eat helps save animals lives and protects the environment. With your new vegetarian diet, it is estimated that you will save 42 animal lives per year.
Don't Sweat the Small Stuff - You may find yourself worrying about trace animal ingredients in mostly vegetarian foods like bread. If you do, step back for a minute and remember that the most important thing (for the animals, the earth, and yourself) is to avoid MOST animal products. In a world where several million people walk into fast food restaurants and order hamburgers every day, youre unlikely to help anyone by avoiding milligram quantities of anything. In fact, you may actually hurt animals by convincing people around you that vegetarian eating is difficult and time-consuming.
